Craig Engebretson Fishing Guide Service
Our day will begin by meeting about 7:30 a.m. at the local diner for breakfast where we will become better acquainted while I lay out the days "game plan". This will be based on the time of the season and the prevailing weather conditions. For catching big muskies consistently, this is everything.
We will be fishing a "full day" rain or shine, snow or wind. In our area of the Northern Highland State Forest there is always a very good and safe spot to fish trophy muskies, regardless of the weather. Big muskies may not be smart, but they are wary enough to grow to that size by avoiding anglers. When a Northern WI muskie reaches about 40 inches long, it's about 10 years old and already has a "masters" in angler tactics and mass produced lures. Catching these fish can be quite specialized.
You will also be taught boat control with minimal disturbance which can be paramount to your success. You will be shown the how's and explained the whys of where we are and what we are doing without the hype of the modern fishing media. I am sorry but I do not consider fishing for large muskies to be a group sport, if you want that, join a group. Our fishing is normally done in quiet and generally out of the way stretches of water which helps to explain our high percentage of muskies over 20 lbs. caught. Be acceptable to many different fishing techniques as our environment changes. Change is inevitable and understanding it allows me to keep producing big muskies for you. Releasing these fish unharmed is extremely important and we have been doing so for almost 30 years with better than 99% release ratio. Stay relaxed and ready for a good time, because that is what fishing is truly all about.
Along with this, the sighting of an American Bald Eagle, a family of loons or several deer at the waters edge in the natural freshness and beauty of Vilas County is always a "PLUS".
